Fine art photographer: Jin Koo Cho
Project: Distorted memories April 21 – 24, 2017
Artexpo New York (booth F543)
Jin Koo Cho, a fine-art photographer, is set to present his unique works of abstract photography at the Artexpo in New York from April 21 to 24, 2017. His upcoming exhibiting is titled “Distorted memories.”
A long ago, he suffered a brain hemorrhage, which was a near death experience and struggled for months to recover. During his recovery, his vision was severely blurred, almost losing his sight completely. He wanted to share this experience with others, which is why the images are at the boundary between the conscious and unconscious, between reality and dream.
The framed images offer different interpretations to different viewers. For some, his photos may represent a beautiful landscape and for others, an abstract piece of art depicting inner conflicts.
At his first solo exhibition in Seoul in 2007, Cho commented that photography is both an entrance into the unconscious and an exit that reveals the self for him. And visitors at his upcoming exhibition will find that his artistic expression is richer because of his personal experiences.
Jin Koo Cho studied at School of Visual Art (SVA) from 1999 to 2003 and currently travels between New York, Seoul and Japan. He also manages a photography studio in Seoul as an active senior photographer, shooting numerous commercial photos for fashion and music clients. He currently resides in San Francisco, devoting most of his time to fine art photography. He is also a contributing artist for the Contemporary Art Curator Magazine.
